Prepress File Specifications We accept both PC and Macintosh desktop publishing and word processor file formats and media. All files will be processed through our Rampage RIP (raster image processor) and trapped accordingly. Files can be submitted by e-mail, FTP, on CD, DVD, Jazz 1gb or 2gb, or 100mb/250mb/750 Syquest. When sending application files, please include all supporting graphics, logos, artwork and fonts necessary to print the file. Bleeds: Any image that bleeds off the page must extend at least 1/8" (.125"). Live Area: This is your graphics and type area that cannot be trimmed into during finishing/bindery. All type and graphics not intended to bleed must be a minimum of 1/8" clear and free from the head, foot, face, gutter or trim area. Resolution: Photos should be at least 300 dpi for best results. All line art or bitmap images should be 600 dpi or higher. A NOTE ABOUT TEXT RESOLUTION: Small text (12pt. or smaller) created in desktop publishing programs such as QuarkXpress and Adobe Pagemaker will print much better than small text created in Adobe Photoshop or other bitmap/pixel-based programs. The reason for this is simple: At the time of converting your files into Postscript information, EPS or PDF necessary for output to negative film or plate, fonts used in Quark and Pagemaker rely on the postscript information from the fonts stored on your computer to create their outlines - allowing very high resolutions of text - up to 2,400 dots per inch. Small text created in a Photoshop file will only reproduce as good as the overall photograph resolution. So if your Photoshop picture file is 300 dots per inch, your text will be limited to 300 dots per inch. At small point sizes, 300 dots-per-inch text will appear "blurry", "out of focus" or hard to read. We recommend importing your images into programs such as QuarkXpress or Adobe Pagemaker and then creating your text in those respective programs. Color Space: All images must be in the respective mode for which they are intended to be printed. Example: CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow Black) for 4-color printing and Grayscale or Black and White for single color printing. Spot colors may be added to your designs if you intend them to be printed as such.
