| Going Green... Grit is doing it's part.
Everywhere you look today - everyone's going green. Environmental responsibility has become the latest business trend that is here to stay. We have been asked recently if Grit is FSC Certified. FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council – a membership-based organization that promotes the responsible harvesting and management of the world's forests. FSC also certifies manufacturing facilities – such as paper mills and print shops – regarding the proper use of these materials and ensures that manufacturers are producing products for customers efficiently and responsibly.
Grit has not yet entered the FSC-certification process. What Grit has done since it opened it's new plant in Montoursville, PA in 1992 is:
- recycle paper waste from all aspects of print production
- recycle all paper waste from office environments
- invest in state-of-the-art presses with shorter make readies, reducing paper usage
- recycle aluminum printing plates
- donate all unused inks to small print shops
- buy paper from environmentally responsible suppliers who are FSC-certified and SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified
- when possible use aqueous (water-based) coatings and soy-based inks
Our ultimate goal is to produce printed materials for our customer's efficiently, cost-effectively and with minimal waste material. At Grit we are committed to helping protect the environment and reducing waste materials that enter our landfills.
